SNL Funny? …What an odd change of pace.

September 22, 2008

Something interesting has been going on with television lately.  No, not the Emmys – those are never interesting.  It appears that Saturday Night Live has actually grown a pair and gotten funny again.  I had lost all hope and jumped off that bandwagon years ago, but some of the latest political sketches have got me wanting to come back.

I am glad that SNL started taking a point of view again. The fact that people have actually gotten upset by the recent John McCain and Sarah Palin sketches (which were brilliant) only makes it more funny.  I completely agree with Times columnist James Poniewozik, “Comedy doesn’t have to be balanced; it has to be funny.” Those who are upset should let the SNL writers do their job and find something else that is actually worth getting upset about.

The Best Camera Ever?

September 5, 2008

filmmakers networkHas film finally met its match?  The Red One is brainchild of Oakley founder James Jannard.  The camera employs a 4K image sensor (over 5 times the amount of information than typical HD cameras record) that is actually more similar to those found in digital SLR’s than in movie cameras. Hollywood is buzzing about Jim’s film destroyer, some of the most renowned directors including Steven Soderbergh, Peter Jackson and Doug Liman have already adopted the Red.  For more information about the Red One and parent company Red Digital Cinema, check out the article on Wired.com. For a preview of footage taken on the Red watch the video below… unfortunately to see it in high quality you have follow the link to view it on Vimeo – but it’s worth it!
